Jeju Olle, day 16
Jeju Olle, Day 16
Slow morning, taking my time to wake up and pack. Today is only one longish section to hike and the check-in time at the next place is at 3pm. So I might aim to depart some time around 10am and then take things easy.
This next place I am staying at for two nights as tomorrow seems to be a day full of rain. And after that I will only have one day (two sections) of hike left to the starting point in Seogwipo. Still, will need to re-do section 7 and do section 7-1 but almost there.
The trail is as pretty as always, mostly going along the coast. A few kilometers into the trail I’ve met a nice Danish guy hanging around on a bicycle, so he joined me and we continued together while talking about random stuff. Took a break in a cute cafĂ© on the way and split up, following our own ways. A nice chat.
Then, just a couple of kilometers to the accommodation, a random Korean guy stopped a car, gave me a couple of rice cakes and drove away. Not sure what it was, but I’m grateful for the snack nevertheless.
Checking into Korean pensions is blowing my mind. Not every one of them, but more than once I am getting into a situation where there is no one at the check-in counter when I come and just the keys are lying out there. So I am supposed to take the key to my room and check myself in. As a proper white barbarian, I am trying to call the manager instead, as I am not sure which room is mine and what I should do at all. They come, show me that the key is out there, waiting for me, and go away. Feels weird. Probably next time I might be able to check in normally, as a proper civilized Korean.
